Beethoven’s Walk
Beethoven, who suffered from depression, would take walks in the large park by the fortress even on days when rain poured down heavily, without an umbrella or hat. He couldn’t come up with new ideas without walking. Rousseau, Emerson, and Kierkegaard always carried a small notebook during their walks to jot down thoughts that came to them.
When Your Thoughts are Blocked
When your thoughts are blocked and inspiration has dried up, a walk acts as a great lubricant. It revitalizes you even when your body is exhausted. It calms the storms in your mind and is the greatest gift for managing your body and mind. I write my morning letters while taking daily walks and practicing walking meditation.
