Civic Education in Germany
After suffering the atrocities of the Nazis and the defeat in World War II, Germany undertook a “civic education” initiative to rebuild the devastated nation. They believed that before reforming and transforming the entire society, it was more important to create a social foundation for individuals to find happiness and carve out their own lives. Ensuring that these individuals could become members of the community was the way to rebuild the devastated Germany.
Conducting the “BDS Germany Camp” reinforced my realization of the power of civic education at the foundation of German society. When each individual can be happy, their family, village, city, and country can be happy. Furthermore, all of humanity and the entire planet will be safer and happier. The well-being of each person establishes the order of the whole and sets the nation straight.
Civic, Education, Happiness
