If you find reading books alone too daunting or challenging, consider reading with others. If the size of the text or the amount of words feels overwhelming, making it hard to read a book, I recommend picture books. Even short poems can be great. British picture book author Anthony Browne once said, “Don’t think of picture books as just for children.” They’re philosophical and thought-provoking.
In the past, daily newspapers used to have four-panel cartoons. In just a few short panels, these cartoons would capture the essence of the day’s events with sharp wit. They were very clear, incisive, easy, and concise… and that was enough. Reading the world through picture books is also a great intellectual asset. It allows you to paint vivid images in your mind and enhances your boundless imagination and thinking skills.
