Parent-Child Conversations
I know someone who’s the best at communication in the world. They’re unparalleled in empathy. Even if their conversation partner speaks oddly with unclear pronunciation, they listen lovingly and nod. They never miss a word and look at the speaker with an expression that there’s nothing more enjoyable in the world. They even understand the partner’s nonsensical words and relay them correctly. You might have guessed it. It’s a parent talking to a young child. Look at parents talking to their children—they are true masters of communication and conversation.
Parent-child conversations may seem easy, but they are actually one of the hardest. The way parents communicate with their children when they are young is different from when they grow up. Parents looked at everything with love when their children were young, answering the same questions repeatedly. Then one day, the conversations stopped, and now they struggle to communicate with their aging, childlike parents. It’s heartbreaking to see how the once communication masters have turned into victims of conversation breakdown.
