The Importance of Healthy Emotions
People often limit the range of emotions they feel comfortable expressing to only “positive emotions.” Among the emotions of joy, anger, sorrow, and pleasure, half are negative emotions, yet expressing them is seen as a virtue and maturity. Just as saying “I like it” for something good and “it’s beautiful” for something pretty, saying “I dislike it” for something unpleasant or “I hate it” for something distasteful is a healthy behavior.
Expressing your feelings honestly, whether they are positive or negative, is a healthy practice. However, it’s important to consider the time and place for such expressions. While being true to your emotions is beneficial for your well-being, it’s equally essential to be mindful that it doesn’t cause unintended harm to others.
