Words Should Be Used with Care
As I age, I find myself speaking without restraint. My body grows old, and perhaps my mouth is aging along with it. I know that words should be used with care, but thoughtless words can pierce like a dagger. My lips, like withered petals, remind me to be mindful.
The poet attributes thoughtless speech to aging, but it’s not due to age or a tired body. It’s a habit of moving the lips without thinking. The older we get, the more we should think deeply and speak kindly. Failing to do so is like holding a dagger in our hearts.
