“Just Because I Hate It”
There’s a conversation that goes like this: “Not that person!” “Why?” “Just because I hate them!” “Didn’t you meet them only once, five years ago?” “Yes, I barely remember their face, but I definitely hate them.”
At this point, life becomes ambiguous. We can’t tell if the event is the truth or if the lingering emotion is. What is clear is that the ‘ignorant ambiguity’ we cling to lasts unbearably long, far beyond the actual event or emotion.
It’s not good to love unconditionally. It’s worse to hate unconditionally. Judging and acting based on emotions without rational or logical reasoning is dangerous. It obscures the truth and destroys relationships. We always have emotions of liking and disliking. But letting yourself be led by ‘just because’ throws you into an ignorant pit.
