Life is not in machines.
Medicine is not warm.
Thermometers don’t have body temperature. Antibiotics,
and oxygen saturation monitors don’t have warmth.
Life is not in the machines that handle it.
When a patient complains of side effects,
staring at the pharmacopoeia or
just looking at the monitor next to a gasping patient,
makes me the same doctor.
Doctors depend on numerous machines.
They use stethoscopes, thermometers, and blood pressure monitors.
However, machines always have limitations.
They cannot save a life that is fading.
When a doctor’s gaze rests only on monitors or machines, that is no longer medical practice.
Even if thermometers don’t have warmth, doctors must have it.
With a warm touch and kind gaze,
doctors should look at the person, not just the machine.
doctor, life, warmth
