Psychological Personal Space

Psychological Personal Space

Whether it’s between lovers, friends, or parents and children, the discomfort and conflicts that arise from invading someone’s psychological personal space are quite common. A typical example is confusing love with obsession. This includes feeling uneasy unless you know everything about your partner’s phone or private life, insisting on sharing every personal concern or intimate emotion, or not allowing any alone time.

Even in love, there are gaps and distances. There are times when you need to be as close as one body, and times when you need to maintain a proper distance like trees. Sometimes, time alone and allowing others to have alone time is necessary. If you don’t allow these gaps, you end up trapped in the prison of obsession. Granting each other psychological personal space is key to a sweet, long-lasting love.
