Thanks to the Roman Emperor’s Tutor
Because of his tutor, I learned not to favor either the green or blue team in the arena, and not to side with either the round or long shield in gladiator matches. I also learned to endure hardships, be content with little, avoid getting involved in other people’s affairs, and not to listen to slander.
The Roman Emperor’s status also depended on the tutor they had. A good teacher, a wise mentor, turned Marcus Aurelius into a wise emperor. His “Meditations” remain a valuable collection of wisdom for many even today. “Do not take sides and do not listen to slander.”
wisdom, endurance, neutrality
