The Most Profitable Journey
Zeno told his students that he came to value wisdom more than wealth or reputation. He often said, “The most profitable journey I ever made began the day I lost all my possessions in a shipwreck.”
Zeno of Citium was the founder of the Stoic school of philosophy. Without him, Greek philosophy might have remained a relic. Once a trader of valuable purple dye more precious than gold, he began studying Socratic philosophy after losing everything in a storm, which led to the founding of Stoicism. Adversity can sometimes be the starting point of the most profitable journeys.
