The Weather that Changed World History
- The golden age of Rome was during the “Roman Empire Climate Optimum.”
- Napoleon lost the Battle of Waterloo because of the “rain.”
- Hitler narrowly escaped assassination by leaving for the train station 13 minutes early due to “fog.”
- If it weren’t for the huge “hailstorm” in 1788, the French Revolution of 1789 might not have happened.
- The D-Day invasion was carried out by predicting one day of “clear weather” amidst storms.
Farming is also weather-dependent. Droughts lead to poor harvests and floods wash everything away. Even travel plans can be disrupted by weather, with flights suddenly canceled, leaving people stranded. There are countless historical events that were altered due to weather. Despite advances in weather prediction technology, failure to use it properly has often led to disasters, all due to human arrogance.
