Internal issues are like cancer; they don’t reveal themselves early on, and members often fail to grasp the severity. It’s only when the system is completely broken and irreparable that the realization hits. Many people spoke of the Sewol Ferry disaster as if it was just a random accident, and they behaved as though something groundbreaking would improve. However, most of our team shared the same opinion: “It was bound to happen.” That was the clear reality we saw.
The most dangerous time is when you don’t recognize the severity. If you only realize the seriousness after the system breaks down and festers, it’s already too late. What’s even more dangerous is not understanding the gravity even after the crisis. Significant improvement is needed, but as time passes, the urgency fades, and similar incidents repeat. Cancer must be addressed early to increase the survival rate.
