Learning to walk, infants take, on average, 2,368 steps and cover around 701 meters in a day, falling 17 times per hour. Walking, much like acquiring any skill, is most effectively mastered through consistent and varied practice over time. During approximately one year, infants walk thousands of steps and experience thousands of falls. Through this process of failure, practice, and feedback, they gradually reduce the frequency of their falls.
Everyone undergoes the process of learning to walk. We take thousands of steps, fall countless times, and get up again, over and over. It’s an integral part of growth. Although we barely remember those early days, revisiting that stage of repeated failure and relentless practice might remind us that life isn’t so daunting. After all, falling down simply means we have another chance to stand back up.
