The Seven Elements of Happiness

The Seven Elements of Happiness

What are the determining factors of happiness?
Most of them are quite predictable.
Richard Layard identifies seven key elements:
“Our family relationships, our economic circumstances, our work,
our community and friends, our health,
our personal freedom, and our personal values. Among these,
excluding health and income, all are tied to
the quality of human relationships.”

The factors determining happiness surely cannot be limited to just seven.
Countless elements must come into play.
Nonetheless, there is a shared theme found in this text: “us.”
It’s not “me,” nor is it “you.” It’s the amalgamation of “me,” “you,”
and even more—the “us.” Within these human relationships,
particularly their level and quality, happiness is ultimately shaped.
Human relationships are happiness itself.
