The Grace of Character
Even a narrow path in the mountains becomes a road when people walk it often.
But if no one walks it for a while, it quickly disappears under the weeds.
This ancient saying, once quoted by President Obama during a U.S.–China dialogue,
reflects a deep respect for another culture.
That’s what true character is—
not about elevating yourself,
but about lifting others up,
so that everyone rises together.
Character doesn’t appear overnight.
It’s like a path—formed by repeated steps,
faded when neglected.
Reading, reflection, and meaningful relationships
with people of integrity help shape it.
And that character shows up in the way we speak,
the way we act,
the goals we set,
and the dreams we chase.
Character grows,
just like a well-traveled path.
respect, integrity, growth
