The Line Between an Acquaintance and a Friend
Sometimes I wonder where the boundary lies—when someone is simply an acquaintance, and when they become a true friend. I don’t know of any clear rule to separate the two. But I do remember the quiet sadness I felt when someone I thought was a friend turned out to be just an acquaintance.
After experiencing that sadness more than once, I’ve come to realize that a friend is someone who notices the colors and the fragrance of who I am, and with that care, calls me by my real name. Meeting such a person in life is nothing less than a profound blessing.
