Frozen Ground
If you worry that a child might fall into icy water,
make a promise not to play on frozen ponds.
When they stay off the ice, there’s no chance of falling in.
But if the child still feels afraid,
teach them that wearing a life jacket means they’ll float and stay safe.
Actually giving them a life jacket will calm their mind even more.
Ice can be dangerous,
yet it can also be a wonderful playground.
If fear takes over, that playground disappears.
Remind them to watch out for thin ice,
and if the fear continues, it’s the adult’s role
to help them feel secure by putting on a life jacket.
Children need the chance to play on the ice too.
safety, fear, trust
