I Bought Two, Just to Give You One
There was a time when I’d buy just one of everything—
a pretty flower pot, a nice mug, a lovely hairbrush.
I’d place them around my room or tuck them away in a drawer.
But then, I started buying two.
One for me, and one for you.
That handkerchief I gave you, saying how beautiful it was—
I bought it with you in mind.
Now, I’ve gone back to buying just one.
Because knowing you already have it,
that alone feels like enough.
When we love someone deeply,
we want to share everything—
a walk, a meal, a sunset.
We start picking up two of the good things,
so we can enjoy them together.
And then one day,
we realize we’re happy even if we don’t get to keep it,
as long as they do.
That quiet shift—
it’s the sign of loving more than before.
