Whale-like Love

Whale-like Love

The great blue whale can send out a sound at twenty hertz, as deep as the lowest note on a piano. In the ocean, such low frequencies travel almost endlessly, carrying across vast distances. That is why a whale in the Antarctic can share a song of love with another near the Aleutian Islands.

We too live apart for long stretches of time, relying on long-distance calls to remind each other of our love. A love like whales…

No matter how faint the sound, no matter how far the distance, nothing can silence the love of whales. Even across oceans, they hear one another through that mysterious gift of low frequencies. And we, with airplanes and telephones, have even greater tools of connection. Yet distance still weighs on us. Today, as you journey across continents, I cheer for the love we share, vast and enduring like the whales.
