Words We Should Speak and Those We Should Hold Back

Words We Should Speak and Those We Should Hold Back

A wise man once said,
“Put a door on your mouth.
Better to guard your lips than to leave them wide open,
for it would be safer to unlock a vault filled with treasure
than to let careless words escape.
Be mindful, so that nothing slips out that may bring regret later.”

Hurtful words often sit right at the edge of our lips.
When we speak without thinking, or talk too much,
we can wound others deeply.
And once spoken, words cannot be taken back—
they linger, leaving us with sorrow and regret.

That is why we must learn to guide our tongue wisely,
to know when to speak and when to remain silent.
Silence, when chosen with care, is not emptiness—
it is a skill, a strength, and sometimes the greatest wisdom.
