The Gift of Altruism

The Gift of Altruism

Altruism is not a virtue that can be legislated. It must be learned through experience, felt in the body. And the best way to learn it is by being on the receiving end of someone’s kindness. That’s when we realize that altruism doesn’t come from grand gestures, but from small acts of care. True altruism brings happiness not only to others, but to ourselves. It begins when we let go of the self—not to shrink, but to expand. In giving, we gain more than we lose. And in that process, we become the greatest beneficiaries. Meditation is the practice that helps us get there.
