Teenagers are like two sides of a coin. They want their family to back off, yet crave recognition and love. But moms often try to change their kids instead of accepting them. This makes moms someone who ‘doesn’t get it,’ and their words go in one ear and out the other.
Teenagers first seek acceptance from their parents, especially their mothers. However, when that desire turns into advice, it often leads to rebellion. Kids grow on their parents’ praise and trust. Encouragement and comfort should come before criticism. Only then will the mom be someone who ‘gets it.’ “My mom understands me!”
