Thoughts Move Without Rest *Thoughts move without rest. Like flowing water or the atmosphere in the air, or like balloons scattered by the wind, they drift without a center. The characteristic of thoughts is that unintentional thoughts, or distracting thoughts, appear. These thoughts are the complex results created by human emotions, intellect, and the selfish ego called ‘I.’
From Bae Cheol-hyeon’s ‘Samadhi’ –
Thoughts are like clouds. Dark clouds and white clouds come and go incessantly. These clouds are the ‘small self,’ also known as the ‘ego.’ When the small self, the ego clouds, are full, the clear sky cannot be seen. The clouds need to clear away for the sky to reveal itself. The sky is always there. That is the ‘true self,’ also known as the ‘big self.’ Meditation is when the big self watches the small self with compassion.
