Tomorrow, I’ll have more fun playing with my kids.

“Tomorrow, I’ll have more fun playing with my kids.”
“I won’t check my phone while spending time with them.”

These resolutions often remain as thoughts rather than actions. What helped me become more present in parenting was adjusting my environment. Moving the TV to the bedroom, transforming the living room into a reading space, keeping the phone out of reach, and purchasing an adult pass at the kids’ play center—each of these small changes strengthened my connection with my child. Just as environment often overrides willpower, it plays a crucial role in parenting.

It’s not always easy for a parent to engage playfully with their children. The setting matters—the location, the tools, and the method of play all influence the experience. Most importantly, who we share these moments with defines them. A great parent today isn’t just present but actively creating an environment where children feel joyful, understood, and free to explore.
